If you could choose to un-invent one of these three things, which would it be, & why? Here is my brief take on it, which is heavily coloured by my life, which has seen the past 8 ½ years of it as a missionary in a lower socio-economic suburb.
Cars:
An ecological disaster, they have revolutionised our world with transport and food. They burn fossil fuels and our reliance upon them is killing the planet, as well a key driver in wars. Annally cars are responsible for many deaths and much damage.
Heroin:
A killer of an addictive drug, very few are actually dependent upon them compared with the others. True addicts tend to have very little control over the use of this drug and can lead to extreme acts of desperation.
Alcohol:
Causing perhaps the greatest damage within family relationships, leading to fights and physical abuse of women, children and men over many centuries now. The sort of abuse and neglect replicating itself in geneation after generation.
My vote is for:
I would have to un-invent alcohol, but only just over petrol/cars; only just.

but i agree it is one of the most destructive aspects of modern society

Thanks there Hamo, it is a hard one to decide. Hope you and the family are well. I put a bid in for a new chapter in Perth but Sydney tipped the scales!

I think Id miss alcohol too, but id get used to it. Cars is good. That would level things out a bit. I had never thought about it before, that you say heroin is such a small percentage of damage overall.. severe none the less.. but its a good point, its portrayed as this huge menace that threatens to overcome us all in the media.. What would happen if cars and grog were portrayed the same way?

There is a joke that goes: if Heroin started to kill as many people as Alcohol, Cigarettes and Cars the Government would want a cut of the action.
I don’t know what would happen if the others were pushed as much.
Right now there is a drug that makes Herion seem nice, it is called ICE and is a real worry as it can induce, I’ve been told, a semi-permanent psuchotic state, that is a real worry!
