In sad, sad news today the man touted to be the oldest AFL debutant has suffered a major setback.
Jon Owen completely obliterated his ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in an extreme athletics display (of turning around while running lightly).
Tipped by many clubs as the "most exciting prospect" to hit AFL, with skills and strength that "make Judd look like Peverill" (M. Blight) his impact will sadly not get to be measured in terms of on field performance.
With media camped around his house Jon was unavailable for comment and will put his fate in the hands of the Public Health System in which he firmly believes will have him back on track by 2011.

AHH the pain, sorry mate! I’ve only done my medial ligament which was pain enough, but i too know the shattering disappointment that comes with watching a sparkling sporting career slowly fade into oblivion. Good luck with the pain the op and the limping. Enjoy going slow.

So what about the road trip - are you still up to driving? Hope this doesn’t spoil the holiday. My son just did a fairly minor something to his knee too. Most annoyed he was, as he couldn’t run on the beach or ride his bike while we were away for a few days. Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns was his inspiration, but that’s a different code, you mightn’t know him. Hope you do a bit of NRL research before you hit Sydney. Although there has been mention of a second AFL team for the west so you might have half a chance by 2011.

Jon, it didn’t take long for the major parties to attempt to put the kaibosh on your emerging political career. Where are Woodward and Bernstein when you need them! Knee gate strikes again.
